Full Body Movement, Nordic Walking and Trekking___________________________________________ The importance of walking, movement and exercise is emphasized everywhere for good health and is possible for most to maintain throughout their lives. A major goal of FESTIVAL 2009 is to increase appreciation, capacity and interest in going outdoors as well as to create a love for the natural and physical environment.
Nordic walking offers many physiological benefits including heart and cardiovascular health and weight loss and promotes excellent posture and back health. Using Nordic walking poles for fitness or stability facilitates full-body stimulation, an interaction with the pull of gravity that creates bone density and spreads the effort throughout the body. Proper skills and techniques bring about a user-friendly low impact workout experience. Use is ageless and without limits from kids to grandmas to athletes and those with disabilities. Hiking (trekking) poles can add stability to anyone's walk, on the trail and off. Let a pair of poles take some strain off your knees, help maintain your posture and increase your confidence. Lindy from LEKI USA will adjust your poles to the correct length and then take you on a walk into the heart of Coconut Grove using LEKI poles. Bring your money for a nice break at Johnny Rockets restaurant for a soda or ice cream. Trekking poles have undergone a stunning transformation, shape shifting from an ever-so-geeky equipment choice to an outright necessity. Now both day hikers and long-distance trekkers are using them, noting a number of benefits. Organized and staffed by Lindy Spiezer, LEKI USA and Suzanne Nottingham, Nordic Walk Now.

Wheelchair Fencing was developed by Sir Ludwig Guttmann at the Stoke Mandeville Hospital. It was introduced at the 1960 Paralympic Games in Rome and there were 24 countries practicing Wheelchair Fencing in 2006. From a spectator's point of view, the most striking feature of Wheelchair Fencing is the fact that athletes compete in wheelchairs that are fastened to the floor. However, these chairs allow the fencers freedom of movement in the upper body only and the activity is as fast-paced as in fencing competitions for able-bodied.

Therapeutic riding began in Europe over fifty years ago. It grew from a spark of intuitive wisdom in a few dedicated equestrians to an established treatment method now widely accepted by medical, psychiatric, and social service professionals worldwide. Riders benefit physically through the different motions of the horse in areas such as muscle stretching and equilibrium. The rhythmic, three-dimensional movement of the horse closely simulates the input of normal walking motion to the rider. No matter how difficult it is for the person to exercise in other ways, horseback riding improves posture, balance, mobility, and function in a fun mannerOrganized and staffed by Good Hope Equestrian Training Center.
