Despite losing his vision at the age of 13, Erik has become one of the most celebrated and accomplished athletes in the world. Re-defining what it means to be blind, Erik has transformed the image of blindness and opened up the minds of people around the world.
On May 25, 2001, Erik became the only blind climber in history to reach the summit of the world’s highest mountain, Mt. Everest, and in 2008, when he stood on the top of Carstenz Pyramid in Austral-Asia, he completed his quest to climb all of the Seven Summits – the tallest peaks on each of the seven continents. An article in Time Magazine said, "There is no way to put what Erik has done in perspective because no one has ever done anything like it. It is a unique achievement, one that in the truest sense pushes the limits of what man is capable of."
Since then, Erik has gone on to some extraordinary projects which have continued to shatter barriers. He has climbed a difficult 2,000-ft rock face on Mt. Kenya and the 3,000-ft vertical ice face of Losar in the Himalayas. Erik has also tried his hand at adventure racing, completing the grueling Primal Quest, arguably the toughest multi-sport adventure race in the world: 457 miles, nine days, sixty thousand feet of elevation gain, no time-outs.
Erik inspires audiences to have the vision to dream big; the courage to reach for near impossible goals; and the grit, determination, and ingenuity to transform our lives into "something miraculous." Don’t miss Erik Weihenmayer on May 12th at Bearpath Country Club in Eden Prairie, MN when he relates stories of leadership and adversity from the highest mountains and shares his life's vision to demonstrate that there are No Barriers.
Erik’s best-selling memoir, Touch the Top of the World, and three award winning films will be available for purchase following the event as a way to share Erik’s message with your families, friends and colleagues. For those who wish to have Erik personalize their books, he will be signing at a table in the back of the room.
