POWERFUL. That one word says it all and describes my experience with No Barriers USA. I have had the honor of working as a staff member and as a volunteer and it has changed my life.
I do not have a disability. I do not have an immediate family member with a disability. Before being associated with NBUSA, I had only my ideas about how people with disability manage day to day.
The people I have worked with and met through the NBUSA organization and festivals have opened my eyes and opened them wide. Not in the way you might imagine - not just with compassion or sympathy – but with INSPIRATION.
The WONDERFUL people I have met have faced so much more adversity in their lives than I have ever known yet they live more passionately than most able bodied folks I know. They have not let their disabilities deter them in reaching their life goals – it seems to have only made them more dedicated to achieving them.
Volunteering is usually seen as gift from a volunteer to a cause…in this case, volunteering and working with NBUSA has been a gift to me instead - and I am proud and thankful.
