As a member of the No Barriers Class of 2018, you will grow through challenging and transforming experiences – both individually and as a community. We ask that you be fully present. All members of your family are welcome to apply. Please note that each member must fill out his/her own application. Children under the age of 13 must be accompanied at all times and cannot attend activities on their own.
Can I bring my caretaker?
Yes. If you are bringing a caretaker, please indicate this on the application.
What airport should I fly into?
There are three main airports that serve New York City: John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in southern Queens, LaGuardia Airport (LGA) in northern Queens and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in Newark, NJ.
How do I get from the airport to the hotel?
Each individual is on his/her own to get to/from the airport. Taxi is the easiest way to get to Manhattan, but most expensive. JFK and Newark airports are about an hour’s ride into Midtown Manhattan and LaGuardia is approximately 35 minutes. Rental cars are also available at all airports, however we do not recommend this as cars will not be needed once in the city.
By taxi, the metered fare averages $25, plus tolls and tips, and covers all passengers. A shared bus/van is also available for less, however travel time can be longer.
By taxi, the flat fare is $45 and covers all passengers. AirTrain JFK is a light rail service that is also available. It is cheaper and similar in travel time. The service terminates at the Howard Beach, Queens, subway where you can catch the A train (subway) to Manhattan. Or take the AirTrain another 3 miles into the Jamaica station and transfer to the Long Island Railroad or the subway to Manhattan.
By taxi, the flat fare averages $60 and covers all passengers. You can also take AirTrain Newark, which connects the airport to Manhattan’s Pennsylvania Station.
Is there a host hotel?
Yes. The No Barriers host hotel is the Grand Hyatt New York. Thanks to our partners at Hyatt, we are able to offer a room rate of $289 + taxes through the No Barriers Summit room block. Lodging information is listed on the Around NYC page. Various accessible rooms are available upon request.
How do I arrange for an accessible ride?
TLC recently launched Accessible Dispatch, a service that provides wheelchair accessible yellow and green taxis for trips originating anywhere in the give boroughs. Passengers pay the normal metered taxi far in New York City from the point of pick-up to destination. There are no extra costs to passengers.
